Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a martial art that finds its origin in China. Tai Chi is characterised by slow, soft and harmonious movements in combination with breathing techniques. These strengthen the muscles of the body and help to gain a better posture. The breathing techniques help to relax the mind. 

During the course, you learn and practice two different sequences: the 24 posture form and the 42 posture form. Both sequences are widely recognised and put into practice in China and in the rest of the world, as they train the mind and the body through fluid forms to cultivate vital energy (Qi 气).

Resultingly, Tai Chi is the ideal way to release stress, to train and strengthen your body without exageration and to experience Chinese culture in a new and energising way. 

Kung Fu

As of February 2019, the Confucius Institute at the VUB also starts a Kung Fu course on Monday evening. This course focuses on the Southern Kung Fu style called 'Southern Fist' or Nanquan 南拳. This style is characterised by stability through broad stances and rapid and powerful arm movements and hand techniques.


When and where? The lessons start on Monday 11 February 2019 and Thursday 14 February. The courses end in the week of 20 May 2019. The classes follow the academic calendar of the VUB, so no classes are organised when the VUB is closed. All courses are organised on the Etterbeek campus.
